Book review : Reunion in Death

This the 14th book in In Death series. It started with a birthday party. It was supposed to be a happy moment for Walter Pettibone. His birthday was being celebrated by his second wife. Although he'd already knew about the surprise birthday party, he pretended not to know about it. and it was in the middle of the party. he was just finishing his speech and took a sip of his champagne, and then he was suffocating. a moment later, he was dead. walter was known as a and eve was assigned to this case. later she found out that the deadly champagne was being handed by a waiter, and apparently, eve knew this woman. eve put her behind prison 10 years ago. her name was julianne dunne. she was a man eater. but later eve found out that julie was being released for "good behaviour" reason. and julianne got out with a big plan in mind, getting revenge on eve.

julie was put in prison in the first place for killing his husband. her modus was married a rich man and then killed him. while eve was concentrating on putting julianne back to prison, she put her assisstant, peabody on a test. there was a cold case about the murder of a wife. eve suspected it was the new wife's job. but she let peabody to re-open the case. and interogating the husband and the new wife. eve thought peabody was ready for the next step, and she was ready to recommend peabody for detective position. so the only job peabody had to do was finishing that cold case as leverage.

the next victim was henry mouton. he was also a widower. with 3 ex-wives. and eve had to be hurried since julianne seemed to be in a tight schedule. she had a schedule before she went out from jail. and eve worried that roarke was included in her plan. but mira, the department psychologist, doubted that. mira told eve that roarke didn't have the same quality as the other male victims. all the male victim was rich, but didn't have respect for woman. they're all divorced their wives for newer, younger wives.  and eve had to go to dallas, where it started. going to dallas meant that she had to face her previous nightmare. but roarke was there for her.

at the end, eve was in the right place and the right time to catch julianne. this time, eve made sure that she wouldn't get out for "good behavior". and another good news was peabody was also able to solve the cold case. and eve put her name to be promoted.

Book review : Purity in Death

This is another book from "in death" series. This is the 15th book in this series.

the first victim was a drug dealer. he was no ordinary drug dealer since he chose to deal to elementary students. and it started with his headache. he was mad because of his headache, and then he started to go nuts. he beat his neighbor's boyfriend to death and almost hit his neighbor too. but unfortunately, another police office was nearby, and the police officer decided to step in and threw some shots and ended his life. the weird thing happened when eve started to investigate. one of the strangest thing was the text written in his computer was "absolute purity achieved". and it wasn't all. the cause of death was heart attack, which was strange.

the second victim was a police office from DDE. he was investigating the first victim's computer when he went nuts. he started to act crazy. and he almost killed eve and another partner from DDE, McNab. eve was okay, but McNab got hit and almost became paralyzed for the rest of his life. eve wanted to save him, but unfortunately, what killed the first victim also killed him. his brain was swollen and then bum! it exploded. a police officer died.

and it wasn't all. another victim was died. he was another culprit in the community. he was a pedophile. and he slit his own throat. to death. and the bread started to crumble. eve found out that his previous victim was a boy. and the boy decided to kill himself. and it was devastating to his family, especially his father. and also the boy's social officer. and eve was suspicious that something has to do with the father's boy.

but it wasn't all. the killer sent message to public via nadine frost, eve's friend whom was also a news reporter. the killer claimed that they were just "cleaning" the community, by killing bad people. they justified themselves for killing them. saying the community were cleaner without them. and then another victim was killed again. this time was a woman. with bad record too. and there was a note also in her laptop,"absolute purity achieved". eve had to be quick or another one would be dead too. but she seemed facing dead end.

while eve was investigating the cases, roarke and his little team were working to find anything on the first victim's laptop. and slowly, the case was open. eve met with the detective that worked the rape case conflicting the third victim. and his wife was the social officer. and eve had her suspicious about that couple, but she couldn't find any more proof to find the truth. another pressure on eve came from the higher authorities, who was the major and the vice major of nyc.

in short, eve later found out that there was a connection between the suspect, the family from the rape victim's case and also higher authorities which demanded her to make move smartly or she would lose the case. at last, eve could catch all the members from so called "purity group" and held them responsible for several murder cases. moral behind this book: even though you were the victim from justice system, it didn't mean that you could play judge yourself, no matter how high your position in society.

Book review : Portrait in Death (JD Robb)

actually, i was planning to review all my books, but my husband just laughed at that thought. yeah, i admit, i had to read all my books all over before i could review it since i was sooooo forgetful. so, now i had spare time and i didn't want to study.. so i guess i would review this book i've just finished reading.

the series "in death" was telling a story about a NYSPD homicide detective named Eve Dallas. She and his husband became a central role in the series. about their love life and Eve's career as police vs Roarke's past as a criminal. and portrait in death was the 16th books in this series.

this book told us about a murder who sent pictures of young woman to a reporter, whom also Dallas' friend, Nadine. the pictures captured the young woman as a calm and peaceful woman. but turned out the picture was taken after the woman had died. as the investigation proceed, eve found out that the victim had connection with two places, one was a data club named "make the scene", and the other was to a professional photographer who had a studio named "portography".

the second victim was a dancer. and the connection to "portography" was quite clear. the dancer had his photo taken for his school at that place and by the same photographer. while the first victim was caught by lens by accident. she was in a wedding party, and the photographer thought she had this unique face so he captured her quietly. like candid. but eve had this feeling that the photographer had nothing to do with the murder. instead, she had suspicion that one of the photographer's former assistant was the real killer. but she didn't found the connection to the data club.

and the third victim was very dear to one of eve's colleague. and with all the help from roarke and her team, she could find the culprit. he was very disturbed since his mother died. her mother was a nurse and suffered from a cancer. she finally died but he was still in denial. he also amazed by another famous photographer whom was famous for his "death" photography, so he decided to follow his path. and he believed that by murdering those people and capturing them after they died, he could save their "light" and made them eternal. and eve was racing with time, as the murderer took one of his team as the next victim. but in the end, she could save him just in time. and she could arrest the murderer.

meanwhile, roarke found something about his past. roarke finally learnt that a woman that he thought his mom until now was not his real mother. his real mother probably was murdered by his father. and roarke was shaken by this truth. he almost shut himself from eve, trying to digest the new news, but then he realized that as husband and wife, he should share it with her. and he decided to go back to ireland, and found out about the truth. he hunted the man whom once was his father's friend and scared him to spit out the truth. and after finding the truth, roarke gathered himself and went to see his long-gone family. he met with his aunt, who was his mother's twin sister, and his uncle and all his cousins. and to his surprise, eve made time to fly to ireland to be by his side while she was still in the middle of the investigation.

so, even though eve was still digesting about mavis' pregnancy, annoyed since summerset's vacation was put on hold since he was injured.. but at the end, it was all fine. eve finally could accept her future baptist baby, and summerset was finally gone on vacation.

Reviews : The Flynn Brother Trilogy - Deadly Night

okee.. at first i thought since i was lazy to write, i just gonna write reviews about all the novels and books that i have. but since i forgot most of them, i decided to read them all one by one each day and wrote the review. but i was lazy to do it.. sooo... i'm just gonna review the new book that i buy. this is another trilogy. i decided to buy them all at once. so i have to read them all and finish them as soon as possible.

the bad thing about the edition is that there was no information about which book is the first or second or last. so i had to guess by reading the review behind it. i know birth order didn't mean that the story about the firstborn is the first one, but turned out it was right. so i'm glad that i read from the beginning.. hahaaa... (i once bought a book that turned out to be a trilogy, and i bought the second one! i had to borrow to read the rest of the trilogy and did some guessing since i didn't know the beginning)

the flynn brothers are aidan, jeremy and zachary. aidan is a private investigator and FBI agent - used to be. the brothers inherited a haunted house, complete with the stables and mortuary inside the land from their long lost aunt that died recently. according to the urban story there, their house is haunted by the ghost from the past. around the civil war, there was this pretty lady that secretly being married to a federation soldier. but since it was war, they hide the fact that she was married. one day, there was a cruel enemy soldier that tried to rape and murder the lady, just in time when her husband arrived. too bad though. his cousin, which was the enemy soldier, arrived at the scene and shot him without knowing that he shot his own cousin. the lady jumped from the balcony and died, leaving her son to live alone. and so the story began.

when the brothers searching the house, they found two human bones. and so since they were distracted by the ghost story and part of them wanted to proof that it was wrong, they decided to do some investigation. turned out there were couple of girls missing from that town but at different time. since they were ex-FBI and ex-cop, they forced and begged their old friends to help them out.

there was this pretty young lady, kendall, who was treated their aunt as her own until the day she died. at first the brothers thought her as an enemy, but then, together they investigated it and found out more mysteries. aidan, without knowing it, fallen in love to kendall. but danger was around them. as a serial killer was loose in the area. angry since his crime are started to be known as the investigation going on. and he decided to stop them.

this is a romantic suspense plus some mystical novel, since there were ghosts and stuff. but since i am bad with names, i often confuse with the characters in the book. too many people to remember. but at then, the right is always win. that's important. and so they live happily ever after too. not bad for a reading to kill leisure time. and it was confusing enough so i can't guess which one is the killer. or it because of my memory lack to remember the character? i don't know.. you decided it yourself.
